Blue Tier & Atlas Wilderness Trails

This is a breathtaking enduro trail across the Blue Tier plateau riding through subalpine vegetation, Myrtle forests and tall fern glade wet rainforests descending on 'Big Chook' with epic flowing berms to Weldborough, you won't be able to take the smile off your face! 

After a relaxing break for lunch at the Weldborough pub challenge yourself on Atlas a white-knuckled ride with rocky climbs and technical rocky descents. Keep a look out for a huge log roll, the lookout over Cascade Dam is a great place to regroup before heading into the Dam Busters, one of the fastest descents in the Derby network or take the link to ride the Krushkas descent or tackle the black diamond trail of Trouty and the new Cuddles if you dare!

  • Fitness Level: Moderate to High

Itinerary

  • Meet the MADMTB crew, shuttle from Derby to Blue Tier trailhead, departing at 8.40am
  • Ride the 23km Blue Tier trail to Weldborough Pub, approx 1.5 - 2 hours ride time
  • Lunch at the historic Weldborough Hotel (own cost)
  • Shuttle to Atlas trail head (or stay on the bus and return to Derby)
  • Ride Atlas 15km trail to Derby, approx 1 hour ride time

Important Info, what to expect, what to bring:

This adventure ride is for experienced mountain bikers only. You need to be well prepared, fit and able to ride blue intermediate trails. You will be riding through remote Tasmanian wilderness with limited phone reception and access should you have an injury. You can experience a full range of weather conditions on this ride. We recommend bringing the following items:

  • A light rain jacket
  • Essential bike spares and spare tyre tubes
  • First Aid Kits (including space blanket and compression bandages)
  • Water (minimum 3 litres) - there is no drinking water on the trails
  • Snacks - in case you need an energy burst or the ride takes longer than you expected
  • GPS satellite tracking devices such as Emergency Plus Phone App, Strava, Garmin etc
  • Bikes need to be well maintained. There are no shortcuts out, so if you can't fix something, you are pushing your bike out
