Ride from the top of the scenic Blue Tier through remote Tasmanian Wilderness and experience the best of the Bay of Fires trail with 13 kilometres of roller-coaster descents and jaw dropping scenery through blackwood and myrtle forests. 

Then head back up for a second run of the speedy lower section again!!

Take a quick break for lunch at the historic Weldborough pub then ride Atlas, a demanding techy trail that links into the fast and flowy descents of Dambuster, Krushkas or Trouty!

RIDE ITINERARY

  • Shuttle from Derby to Blue Tier trailhead
  • Ride the 13km Bay of Fires trail where we will be waiting to meet you at the pickup point
  • Then shuttle back up for a second run of the flowy lower section.
  • Shuttle to Weldborough pub for lunch (own cost)
  • Shuttle to Atlas trail head for the ride back to Derby
 


RIDE PROFILE

Bay of Fires 13km Descent trail

Ride grade: Blue (intermediate), The 13km is an action packed descent trail for the thrillseekers with tight technical fast lines and flowy berm filled sections. It begins with a 2km traverse with magnificent views to the coast and to St Helens. The next 6km sees 400m of altitude loss down a fast flow trail ducking majestic myrtle trees and rolling around huge tree ferns. A short climb through Giant Ash trees leads you into the final speedy descent, a perfect flow trail if ever there was one built.

Atlas to Derby 15km trail

Ride grade: Blue (intermediate), Atlas is white-knuckled ride with rocky climbs and technical rocky descents. Keep a look out for a huge log roll, the lookout over Cascade Dam is a great place to regroup before heading into the Dam Busters, one of the fastest descents in the Derby network or take the link to ride the insane Krushkas descent or if you dare tackle the black diamond trail of Trouty.

Rider Skill Level: Intermediate - Advanced (not for beginners)

Rider Fitness Level: Very good - Good level of fitness required

What to expect, what to bring:

You need to arrive at the shuttle pickup area in Derby 15 minutes before departure.
This adventure ride is for experienced mountain bikers only. You need to be well prepared, fit and able to ride blue intermediate trails. You will be riding through remote Tasmanian wilderness with limited access should you have an injury.

You can experience a full range of weather conditions on this ride. Items to bring:

  • A light rain jacket
  • Sunscreen
  • Essential bike spares and spare tyre tubes
  • First Aid Kits (including space blanket and compression bandages)
  • Water (minimum 2 litres) - there is no drinking water on the trails
  • Snacks - in case you need an energy burst or the ride takes longer than you expected
  • We strongly recommend riders carry GPS satellite tracking devices such as Emergency Plus Phone App, Strava, Garmin etc
  • Bikes need to be well maintained. There are no shortcuts out, so if you can't fix something, you are pushing your bike out
