Bay of Fires 13km Descent trail

Experience the ultimate flow with the Bay
of Fires first 13km descent. Beginning at the stunning Blue Tier, expect
technical tight and fast lines through dense
rainforest to begin followed by flowing descent with roller coaster big wide
berms.

The trail begins with a 2 km traverse with stunning views to the Bay of Fires and St Helens. The next 6km sees 400m of altitude loss down a fast flow trail ducking majestic myrtle trees and rolling around huge tree ferns. A short pedal through Giant Ash trees leads you into the final 5kms of speedy descent with big flowing berms, a perfect flow trail if ever there was one built.

Blue Tier 23km trail

Starting in the high alpine riders will traverse through myrtle and sub-alpine forests and across pristine brooks with 30% of climbing and 70% descending the Blue Tier incorporates the Big Chook descent with fast flowing berms before finishing with an easy 1km fire trail ride to Weldborough pub.

Rider Skill Level: Intermediate - Advanced (not for beginner mtb riders)

Rider Fitness Level: Very good fitness required

Duration: Allow all day - 13km Bay of Fires + 23km Blue Tier trail, includes 2 shuttles

Itinerary

  • Meet your MADMTB crew at Weldborough Pub (in the carpark)
  • Shuttle Weldborough pub to Blue Tier
  • Ride the 13km Bay of Fires trail where we will be waiting to meet you
  • Shuttle to Blue Tier, ride the Blue Tier trail to Weldborough
  • After your ride take a relaxing break for lunch at the Weldborough Pub

What to expect, what to bring:

You need to arrive at the shuttle pickup area 10 minutes before departure.
This adventure ride is for experienced mountain bikers only. You need to be well prepared, fit and able to ride blue intermediate trails. You will be riding through remote Tasmanian wilderness with limited access should you have an injury.

You can experience a full range of weather conditions on this ride. Items to bring:

  • A light rain jacket
  • Sunscreen
  • Essential bike spares and spare tyre tubes
  • First Aid Kits (including space blanket and compression bandages)
  • Water (minimum 3 litres) - there is no drinking water on the trails
  • Snacks - in case you need an energy burst or the ride takes longer than you expected
  • We strongly recommend riders carry GPS satellite tracking devices such as Emergency Plus Phone App, Strava, Garmin etc
  • Bikes need to be well maintained. There are no shortcuts out, so if you can't fix something, you are pushing your bike out
